Beta Theta Pi Recruitment

Beta Theta Pi is the oldest Fraternity at the University of Maine. Over the past 130 years Betas have taken care of UMaine's first mascot, a real live black bear named Bananas. The Beta House is over 100 years old and is one of the oldest buildings on campus. The house is home to 36 Beta brothers, with another 27 living out of house bringing our active chapter size to 63 brothers. Our home is full of history, and brothers and alumni love telling stories from the past.

Each semester Beta Theta Pi participates in many community service events. In the past service projects have included: running the Eddington School Fair, participating in other greek organization's events such as Alpha Phi's Move Your Phi't, Pi Beta Phi's Arrowspike Volleyball Tournament, and Sigma Phi Epsilon's Rock Against Rape. Our largest event of the year has always been Beta's Annual "Sleep-Out" to raise money for Rape Response Services of Bangor, the single biggest philanthropic event at the University of Maine.

Being a brother of Beta Theta Pi means having the opportunity to participate in competitive intramural sports against other fraternity men throughout the school year. Beta has teams for flag football, floor hockey, soccer, softball, basketball, volleyball, swimming, ultimate frisbee, track and cross-country, dodgeball, and many other sports. There really is a sport for almost anyone!

Beta Has an academic assistance program in place which is set up to help any pledges or brothers who may be having a difficult time in classes, to get them any and all the help they can get to excel in school.

In the past, the brothers of Beta had many brother enrichment events, including going sports events, volleyball and wiffleball in the yard, snow tubing, movie nights, socials with sororities, pool and poker tournaments, and watching movies, shows and sporting events on our brand new 70" flatscreen tv.

Brothers of Beta are very active on campus including ing Resident Assistants, members of student government, members of the Inter-Fraternity Council, Greek Peer Educators, members of Umaine pep band, members of UMaine marching band, members of the Student Portfolio Investment Club (SPIFFY), writers, editors and photographers for the Maine Campus, Senior Skulls, and other academic honor societies on campus.
